Wisdom

The Holy Bible tells us “the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.” (James 3: 17-18). This is the wisdom that leads to goodness and calm in ones life. Wisdom is strong because it stands in truth and has understanding.

Wisdom is required in all aspects of one’s life. All Christian values need to be mixed with wisdom so that they may be true and effective. For example, love needs to be with wisdom so that it doesn’t become pampering or just a physical relationship. Wisdom gives its possessors a spiritual perception, an enlightened understanding, which leads to discretion and selection of the right course of action. It leads one to know what to say, when and how. Wisdom involves studying and thinking, looking at the matter from all angles and reviewing all its consequences before taking action. It doesn’t act in excitement or in anger. Wisdom needs intelligence and broad-mindedness. It is not stubborn, conceited or selfish.

The Holy Bible speaks of the greatness of wisdom and tells us of how to acquire it. In James 1: 5 the Bible says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.” Furthermore, the Bible teaches us that “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” (Proverbs 9:10) and this is because a person who is proud and arrogant will not heed the word of God nor obey His commandments. God’s words give wisdom and His commandments lead to life for the Bible says, “the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding” (Proverbs 2:6). The Bible also says, “When wisdom enters your heart, And knowledge is pleasant to your soul, Discretion will preserve you; Understanding will keep you, To deliver you from the way of evil” (Proverbs 2: 10-12).

Dear Friend, the Holy Bible is full of spiritual wisdom and practical advice on how to live life and get through problems. As a start, try reading the book of Proverbs in the Bible as it will be of great benefit to you. And also the book of Ecclesiastes. The book of James as well.

Let’s acquire wisdom through experience, and let’s learn from our mistakes and those of others. Also the Bible advises us to associate with the wise so that we can become wise and learn from their talk and actions (Proverbs 13:20).
